Lazarus Ministry

Companions

Members of the ministry will assist the priest at the funeral as altar server.  They will set up the altar, the lectionary to the readings chosen by the family and perform server duties at the funeral.  Members will also serve as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.

Mass of Remembrance

A Mass of Remembrance is celebrated on All Souls’ Day in November.  Each member will be supportive to the families in attendance.

Martha Ministry

If the family wishes, a meal will be prepared and brought to their home by members on the day(s) of viewing.  It need not be a formal meal, but something light for we know that the time between viewing is a time of respite for the family and they do not need to be running in circles preparing something to eat for family members.

Come Walk with Me

This is a six week grief-support group held in the Spring and in the Fall to assist families in the grief process and is open to all as they go through their journey.  This is directed by a trained facilitator.

Parish Nurses/Program Coordinators

“On February 7, 1837, GOD spoke to me and called me to His service.” Thus spoke Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing, who then spent most of her life trying to identify what GOD wanted from her.

Inspired by the early works of nursing by Florence Nightingale, the parish nurses of Our Lady of Lourdes seek to incorporate the emotional, physical, and spiritual components of health and wellness. Spiritual wellness relies on the physical and emotional wellbeing of the individual. Our ministry’s goal is to obtain and sustain the optimal holistic wellness of each individual in our parish: to bridge the gap between healthcare and the human spirit.

How do we accomplish this? By striving to promote healthy living though monthly blood pressure screenings, health lectures, and counseling and referral services. Parish nurses are present in the Health and Wellness office once weekly for parishioners and the community for consultations with a registered nurse. There are no charges for these services and no appointment is necessary. Please call ahead to ensure the nurse is in. The nurses are usually scheduled to be in the office on Wednesday from 9AM to 12noon, but please refer to the parish monthly calendar for specific dates and times.

Our monthly blood pressure screenings are usually conducted the third weekend after all masses. Volunteer nurses and physicians are available to take your blood pressure and answer any questions you may have. Literature from the American Heart Association regarding such topics as hypertension, diet and stroke are free to all during the screenings.

Gift of Words Book Club

Home to Holly Springs                       Jan Karon - Author

Home to Holly SpringsReaders of the nine bestselling Mitford novels have been captivated by Jan Karon’s “gift for illuminating the struggles that creep into everyday lives—along with a vividly imagined world” (People). They learned quickly that “after you’ve spent time in Mitford, you’ll want to come back” (Chicago Tribune). Millions eagerly awaited the publication of each novel, relishing the story of the bookish and bighearted Episcopal priest and the extraordinary fullness of his seemingly ordinary life.

Now, Jan Karon enchants us with the story of the newly retired priest’s spur-of-the-moment adventure. For the first time in decades, Father Tim returns to his birthplace, Holly Springs, Mississippi, in response to a mysterious, unsigned note saying simply: “Come home.” Little does he know how much these two words will change his life. A story of long-buried secrets, forgiveness, and the wonder of discovering new people, places, and depth of feeling, Home to Holly Springs will enthrall new readers and longtime fans alike.

Cornerstone
Catch the Spirit of Cornerstone

"Cornerstone weekend helped me reflect and experience how our faith is deeply intertwined with our daily lives."

What is Cornerstone?
Have you ever had the feeling that life is going by too fast?  Did you ever wish you could stop the world for a day, catch your breath and have a chance to reflect on what's really important in your life?
Cornerstone will provide just that ... offering you the opportunity to strengthen your faith, come closer to Christ, and grow in a Christian community.
During Cornerstone you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with others in a warm, welcome environment.
This is a one-time experience.  No one attends Cornerstone twice, which makes it a unique experience for everyone.
~
"Cornerstone is putting life
on "pause" for 26 hours
and letting the spirit in."
~

Who conducts Cornerstone?
A team of men and women from Our Lady of Lourdes who have attended a past Cornerstone experience offers their talents in various ways.
Some team members give presentations on selected themes or lead small group discussions.  Others plan liturgy, music, meals and accommodations ... all of them dedicated to ensuring an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality.
~

"Cornerstone for me changed
strangers into women,
women into friends and
friends into sisters."
~
What can you expect?
Cornerstone activities begin on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and end on Saturday evening.
You'll stay overnight at Pollard Hall and the school.  You'll want for nothing.  All you need to bring is an open mind and a willing heart.
Many people, some you may know from other parishes, have experienced Cornerstone. People from all walks of life have sought this opportunity to gain a greater understanding of themselves and what is means to be part of a Christian community.  After their experience, most feel that they have grown spiritually, come closer to the Lord, and developed a greater connection to Our Lady of Lourdes community.
Give yourself this gift of time.  You deserve it.
~

"My Cornerstone experience
was more than I expected it
to be or could have ever
hoped it would be.
The Spirit did embrace
me that weekend and I
hope to never lose that feeling."
